Great Devil Hunt

…Devil Figs, to be precise, along with other particularly irritating invasive weeds.

Giant Devil Figs first started showing up about 20 years ago. Story goes that they were imported as a rootstock to grow eggplants on. Apparently they went to seed somewhere around Murwillumbah, and now grow in dense thickets and scattered throughout paddocks for over 100 kilometres radius.

We can’t stand the things. They outcompete native plants, they get spread prolifically by birds and bats, and they’re spiky! We’ve made it a mission to prevent them seeding as much as possible, by chopping them to the ground and stacking to burn – no poisons on our watch, they don’t work either way! Our system seems to work pretty well – the 5-10% regrowth is less than any other method we’ve come across.

We work on private property for $35 per worker per hour, along with various other individuals who join in along the way. We get plenty of work offers, so if you have an ABN (free to obtain and definitely worth having regardless) and are capable of doing your own books, get in contact – we’d love to make a huge network of devil-weed hunters across the local area, the state, or even the continent!

Other target species by request:

  • Lantana
  • Wild Tobacco
  • Wild Banana
  • Cane Grass
