The story so far…
In early 2024, the Nimbin Sustainability Hub was donated a set of plastic reprocessing machines, built from the Precious Plastics open-source blueprints.
Around the same time, they found part of our team sorting through the Mardigrass festival skips at 8am one morning, because landfill was in the recycling skip, recycling was in the landfill skip, and the whole situation was just begging to be fixed!
Long story short, we got the machines set up, functional, and currently capable of processing over 10kg scrap plastic every 3 hours, into beams, flat sheets, and a motherload of opportunity to play with wild ideas. Even soft plastics are usable, and can be turned into benches, cutting mats or garden stakes, just a few of the concepts we work with!
Can I get involved?
Definitely. You can:
Collect and sort plastics.
Volunteer some time to operate the machines.
Purchase recycled and handmade items to help support this project.
Get in contact with us and share your ideas, or organise a time to connect!
